Bandstand concerts

Summer 2020 programme.

In July 1997 after years of fund raising and a National Lottery Grant for £63,500, the Bandstand, which was designed by Peter Fenton, a well known local architect, was opened. The Bandstand also boasts decorative security screens made by local wrought ironsmith James Godbold who has a forge in the village of Egton, North Yorkshire. Every year free band concerts are held between May and September. Volunteers from the Saltburn 500 Club work hard to raise money to maintain the bandstand and organise the concerts with support from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and Saltburn, Marske and New Marske Parish Council.

Bandstand listings 2020.

Due to Covid19 bandstand performances are being cancelled on a monthly basis, in the hope that it might be possible to rescue some of the performances due towards the end of the season. Feedback from some bands would indicate that there will be no performances this year. Apart from the concerns of opening/closing the bandstand and being aware of social distancing, the bands have not had the opportunity to rehearse. We hope that some of the August/September performances can go ahead. Sunday concerts begin at 2.30pm Sunday 6th May. Saturday concerts begin on 7th July.

Dear friends, visitors and patrons, the Saltburn 500 Club takes great pleasure in welcoming you to another season of Band Concerts, made possible by your generosity in the collections that were taken at last years concerts.

The 21st season of Saltburn Bandstand summer concerts commences Sunday, May 6th with Marske Brass Band at 2.30 to 4.00pm. Inevitably, the cost of providing these concerts increases year on year. The 500Club have to rely heavily on your help so it is hoped that you will continue to contribute as generously as possible to enable the funding of a full programme. If anyone who enjoys attending the concerts is prepared to assist in collecting sometimes please get in touch with the organisers. You will be shown what to do by experienced collectors. Contact trevor.welburn@btinternet.com The Saltburn concerts, which were named runners-up in the "best event" category of the 2008 Culture Awards, run by The Journal, will be held in the Methodist Church or other venue on Saturdays and Emmanuel Church on Sundays if the weather is bad.

Can you help?

A license is now required to hold concerts at the bandstand. A condition of this licence is that two or three people with appropriate Health and Safety training will be required to act as stewards at every concert. This is in case there is an emergency and the Bandstand needs to be evacuated. Will anyone with the appropriate qualification act as a steward at the concerts? Or is there anyone willing to undergo training? Please contact trevor.welburn@btinternet.com if you can help. Thank you.
